In a major breakthrough to snap unholy alliance between underground organisations and Government officials/employees Imphal west police today seized huge quantity of rice and arrested eight Food Corporation of India (FCI) employees on charges of abetting militant activities.
The seized rice are informed to be deducted quantities for a particular underground organisation.
Talking to news-persons this evening, Imphal West Superintendent of Police S Ibocha said based on specific information of rice deducted from the mid-meal scheme being stored at the Sangaiprou godown of FCI a team of Imphal west police conducted the raid.
The rice meant for distribution to various districts are informed to have been deducted at the insistence of the underground outfit amounting to ten percent of the total quantity.
The seizure include 1402 bags (701 quintal) which the UG group had demanded through telephone on January 31 to a particular FCI official, said the SP.
Among the arrested persons are five godown in-charge named as Thounaojam Dhanakumar Singh (56) s/o (L) Th Gourachand of Keisampat Leimajam Leikai; Nameirakpam Dhirendra Singh (58) s/o (L) N Borajao of haobam marak Irom Leikai; Kangjam Kuber Singh (56) s/o K Mera of Malom Tuliyaima; Kangjam Joykumar Singh (58) s/o (L) K chaoba of Malom Tuliyaima; and Maibam Bhorot Singh (56) s/o (L) M Chaoba Singh of Singjamei Chingamakha Maisnam Leikai.
From disclosures of the five arrested person the police came to know that a total of 701 quintals of rice were deducted from the mid-day meal allocation for supply to the underground organisation, revealed the SP.
The three others were also picked up for their involvement in the rice deduction of behalf of the UG group and have been identified as Assistant Manager Depot (FCI) P Ringson TKL (58) s/o (L) P Luison of Pharung village presently a resident of Nagaram; asst manager (movement) Laishram Tombi Singh (56) s/o (L) Kamini Singh of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai; and Asst Mechanic (peon) Laishram Indrajit Singh (52) s/o (L) Mani of Bamon Leikai Thangjam Leirak.
Stating that the seized items are kept at the custody of Lamphel police and would be produced before the court tomorrow, Ibocha said.
Separate press source, disclosed that all the eight arrested persons would charged and prosecuted under the same act applicable to underground member/s.To clear the path for speedy prosecution of the eight the Chief Secretary is said to have intimated the matter to the Food Corporation of India (Dimapur) Manager Director.
