Factional guns boom at Tamenglong, again

Imphal, September 26 2012:
A fierce gun fight took place between cadres of NSCN-IM and Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) near Wairangba village in Tamenglong district today.
According to a source, the gun fight started yesterday evening and went on till noon today.
Casualty on both sides could not be confirmed immediately.
However, an independent source speculated the death of at least six NSCN-IM cadres apart from injuring the Church Pastor of Wairongba village in the marathon gun battle.
The source said that the incident occurred following the interception of mess items of the NSCN-IM, which is having a base-camp near Wairongba village, by the ZUF cadres.
Meanwhile, the identity of the person slain by a combined team of Imphal West district police commandos and 18 Sikh Regiment reportedly in an encounter has been established.
The deceased has been identified as Tongbram Sana (26) s/o (L) Rashi of Lalambung Makhong Naoshepam Leirak.
Family said the youth was a drug abuser.
He was jailed some years back on charge of having link with a certain UG group, though the family could not ascertain to which militant group he had links with.
Police claimed to have recovered a 9 mm pistol and a Chinese hand grenade from the possession of the slain man.
