A fifteen year old girl was found brutally murdered under mysterious circumstances at Kangchup Bethel under Garanom Saparmeina PS yesterday afternoon, said sources.
The victim has been identified as D Mangneihoi Haokip (15) d/o Poukhongthang Haokip of Kangchup Bethel Village.
According to family members, Mangneihoi had been missing since she left her house at around 10 to chase away cows which had entered her family's agricultural field located on the side of a hill about half a km away from her houses They further informed that one of the victim's uncle was also attending her field when Mangneihoi came up to the hill to chase the cows and had even talked to her on the way.
The murder came to light at around 2 pm when the victim's uncle went along with some villagers to the area where Mangneihoi had gone after he failed to get any response despite calling out to her many times.
The family members also said that Mangneihoi was suspected to have been raped before being murdered while returning after chasing the cows from her agricultural field.
Freshly plucked vegetables were also found near the victim's body.
The victim received four knife wound on the right side of the head, two on the left side and one on her right cheek besides bruises on her arms, jaws and thighs.
The victim's body was found with her skirt pulled down.
Saparmeina PS has registered a case in connection with the incident.
A broken knife suspected to have been used by the killer was also recovered from the site.
Meanwhile family members also informed that some villagers of Bethel Village had seen a man fleeing the agricultural field towards Koukrak yesterday afternoon at around 1 pm.
The victim's body was handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS today.
Kuki Students' Organization Imphal branch while strongly condemning the brutal murder of D Mangneihoi Haokip has termed the murder as insane and inhuman Which should be condemned by one and all.
It also warned the Govt to catch the culprit and award befitting punishment within three days failing which the Govt would be responsible for any untoward incident.
