As in other parts of the country, State Government today observed Sadbhavna Diwas to renew pledge for safeguarding the integrity and unity of the nation and enhance mutual understanding and co-operation among different groups of people living in India.
The Sadbhavna Diwas is being celebrated every year on, August 20 coinciding with birth anniversary of late Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The main function of the observance was held at State Secretariat with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh as chief guest.
In his address, Ibobi said that the day is being observed to coincide with the birth anniversary of late Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who himself had sacrifice his life for the unity and integrity of the Nation and strive throughout his life for communal harmony and peace and among the people.
Chief Minister further said that we should never forget that the saying 'United we stand, divided we fall'.
All those who were present at the occasion also took pledge for safeguarding the integrity and unity of the country.
Sadbhavna Diwas was also observed today at the office complex of Imphal East District Deputy Commissioner where Deputy Commissioner KK Chhetry administered pledge to the those officials and invitees who were present at the occasion.
The Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas was also observed in the district today and programmes are launched to create awareness among the public, specially students about the use of renewable energy.
At Senapati, the day was observed as the Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas (Renewal Energy Day).
The function was held at the Community Hall of the District Headquarters with Deputy Commissioner Vivek Kumar Dewangal in the chair.
Besides painting competition, essay writing and debate competition on the theme of renewable energy, a rally was also taken out in the district headquarters to mark the occasion.
At Ukhrul, more than a thousand people comprising mainly school students and Govt employees and a few number of public leaders took out a rally today on the occasion of the 60th birth Anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi observing the day as Renewable Energy Day.
