CM sets Capitol complex date in November, urges end to blockade

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has stated that the Capitol Complex and High Court Complex will be completed by November this year and has once again appealed to the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) to lift the 84 days old economic blockade or substitute it with more democratic forms of agitation for the sake of the people.
Talking to media persons during his inspection round of the development/construction projects being executed at Imphal this morning, the Chief Minister appealed to lift the ongoing blockade.
O Ibobi Singh said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi have agreed to inaugurate the Capitol Project, High Court Complex, City Convention Centre building, etc before the next winter session of the Parliament which is scheduled to begin on November 25 .
He also informed that Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi would lay the foundation stone of the proposed NIT building and other projects during their trip.

The Prime Minister and the UPA Chairperson would also lay foundation stones for the second phase of Sericulture Project and some other projects at Kangla.
All the roads connected to Government establishments in Imphal city are being black topped and they will be finished ahead of the visit of Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi, he said.
The Chief Minister also visited and inspected the work under progress at the site where retaining wall is constructed on the banks of the Nambul river.
Stating that people of the hills and valley have been suffering a lot on account of the uninterrupted highway blockade, Ibobi appealed to replace the blockade with other modes of agitation which are more democratic.
The Chief Minister stated that the roads of Imphal city which are in bad shape would be repaired shortly.
The inspection team led by Ibobi also included Works Minister K Ranjit, IFC Minister N Biren, PDA Chairman Dr Loken and other top-ranking officials.
The inspection round covered Nambul river, Assembly complex, High Court complex and City Convention Centre.
The foundation stone for the Capitol complex was laid in 2004 during the Prime Minister's visit to the State.
Dr Manmohan Singh flew down to the Imphal from Delhi after the State was crippled for months in protest against the killing of Th Manorama in custody.
