Bomb attack on Imphal-Ukhrul Road, AR men hurt

Imphal, October 17 2011:
At least three Assam Rifles personnel sustained injuries when their convoy was attacked by some suspected militants using bomb this morning near Sangkai village along Imphal-Ukhrul road under Litan police station.
A powerful bomb planted on the road-side hill slope exploded when a convoy of 23 Assam Rifles posted at Litan passed through the spot at about 5.30 am near Sangkai village which is around 34 Kms from Imphal.
The AR convoy consisting of two mini-trucks and one Gypsy was heading for Imphal when the bomb exploded suddenly.
The impact of the explosion fell on the foremost mini-truck causing injuries to two AR personnel and the driver.

The injured personnel have been identified as Sudhar VG (36) from Kerala, Ashini Kumar (28) from Punjab and Warengam Amyunao (25) from Ukhrul district.
Ashini Kumar was the driver of the ill-fated truck.
All the injured personnel have been admitted in RIMS after they were brought here in an ambulance of 23 AR.
The explosive used in targeting the AR convoy is suspected to be remote-controlled IED and all its impact concentrated on a single direction.
On account of the bomb attack, traffic along Imphal-Ukhrul road was halted for sometime this morning.
