Death toll climbs to 16, tally soars to 4569

Whereas three individuals succumbed to COVID-19 and other co-morbid health conditions today taking the total death toll to 16, the cumulative number of positive cases has reached 4569 (general public 3377, Central security personnel 1192) .
On the other, Dr Th Uthan of JNIMS has been taken to the hospital's COVID ward after he was tested positive for the contagion yesterday.
Sources informed that Dr Uthan shows symptoms of COVID-19 .
A press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, three males aged 73 years (Imphal West district), 44 years (BSF personnel) and 94 years (Thoubal district) expired at JNIMS and RIMS (two persons) due to COVID-19 and other co-morbid health conditions today.
Altogether 179 persons (general public 68, central security personnel 111) were found infected by the virus during the last 24 hours at RIMS, JNIMS, Raj Medicity, DH Churachandpur, Babina Diagnostics, Senapati DTO, Shija Hospital and Imphal West RAT.
They belong to Imphal West (47), Thoubal (4), Imphal East (9), Ukhrul (3), two each to Senapati and Noney and one to Kangpokpi.
Out of the 68 civilians who have been tested positive during the last 24 hours, eight are returnees from other State while the rest 60 have no history of travelling outside the State.
Meanwhile, 194 COVID-19 positive people were discharged from CAPF (18), RIMS (5), DH Thoubal (5), CCC Meitram (45), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (44), Tamenglong (30), CCC Thoubal (26), CCC Tamenglong (30), CCC Senapati (8) and RD Wing (13) after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test.
The cumulative number of discharged cases is 2632 (general public 2385, Central security personnel 247) and the number of active cases as on Sunday is 1921 (general public 977, central security personnel 944) which put the recovery rate at 57.60 per cent.
Majority of COVID-19 positive persons do not show symptoms or show only very mild symptoms and they do not require hospital care, according to the press release issued by Dr Sasheekumar.
Informing that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued revised guidelines for home isolation of very mild/pre-symptomatic/asymptomatic COVID-19 cases on July 2, the spokesman said that the State is also introducing home isolation of very mild/asymptomatic COVID-19 cases.
A medical team constituted by the Chief Medical Officer would examine the cases for eligibility.
Eligible and willing case would be allowed home isolation.
Pregnant women and minors (below 10 years) who are asymptomatic would be considered on priority.
Health Department would provide Oximeter (returnable) and other consumables like mask, gloves and hydrochloride solutions for home isolation for a period of 14 days.
A medical team would monitor the health status of the cases by phone daily.
The COVID-19 positive people and their family members would be tested by RT-PCR at the end of home isolation period which is an optional arrangement for very mild/pre-symptomatic/asymptomatic COVID-19 positive cases, added the spokesman.
A late report informed that 59 persons belonging to Imphal West have been tested positive for the virus.
They include 29 from Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, four from Awang Khunou, 12 from 1st MR and three from Changangei.
Moreover, 9 individuals were found infected by the contagion at JNIMS and five others were confirmed for the virus at Thoubal after rapid antigen test.
