Imphal, November 14:
Perturbed by the unceasing bickering in the Congress Party, its partner, the Communist Party of India in the SPF has demanded a special sitting of the SPF Steering Committee immediately to discuss the negative fall out on administration and general disorder it has apparently brought about.
Chief Minister, O Ibobi who is the chairman of the Committee was intimated on this by the Left leaders before the Diwali holiday.
But, despite giving his words to summon the meeting he has so far evaded announcing any date.
The CPI has justified tightening the screw on Ibobi at a time when the Chief Minister is scurrying for support from his once loyalists in the Congress.
"Withstanding the number of difference of legislators, the CPI has equal responsibility and commitment for ensuring smooth governance and restoring public confidence which had been shredded by the extended power struggle among Congress leaders," CPI leader and secretary of the committee, Dr Nara said.
Logically, Ibobi should be convening the session in four or five days as further dilly dallying would only add to the public misery, he pointed out without losing much optimism after the earlier procrastination.
In any case, there is no option but to raise the intensity of the demand in the coming days, inferring to a situation of indifference from the Congress leadership.
In an ominous gesture, the executive body of CPI had on November 6 advised the Congress against further prolonging the leadership war.
The executive body claimed that these mad clamouring for power has led to administrative malfunctioning which is detrimental to governance.
CPI sources further informed that close observation and analysis of the current situation engulfing the Congress is continuing.
The executive body is meeting frequently, if not on a day to day basis, to keep track of the development, they added.
Yesterday an extended executive body meeting of the CPI had reportedly dissected the pros and cons of announcing a concrete directive against its partner.
Though, it did not proceed to make a public pronouncement, a decisive resolution will emerge after the State council meeting, which party leaders foresees before Sunday next.
Dr Nara said the CPI can only sincerely hope for the Congress to reach an amicable settlement.
Whether the present regime continues or a changeover is realised, the visage of the Congress leadership hardly matters, he said.
On the other hand, the Left cannot stand like mute spectators and watch the insensible infighting.
The CPI wants an end to the present impasse.
