Imphal, February 09 2016:
The nine tribal 'martyrs' are set to be buried on Saturday, more than 160 days after they were killed while protesting the three 'anti-tribal' bills that were passed by the State Assembly on August 31 last.
The decision, sources said, was taken today during a meeting convened by the UPF and KNO at KKL complex Churachandpur, and was attended by the JAC against anti-tribal bills, the JPO and Innpis.
The proposal to lay the 'martyrs' to rest on February 13 was recommended by the meeting conveners, who entrusted the JAC, along with the JPO and the Innpis to oversee the exercise.
A representative of the armed conglo- merates the UPF and KNO reportedly told the meeting that the Govt has agreed to compensate the victims' families, both those killed and injured, besides agreeing to construct a Martyrs' park in their memory if they were laid to rest together.
For this the representative had asked for the detail lists of victims' as well as their kin who could be offered jobs by the government.
They also seek audit report from both the JAC and the JPO and instructed the two organisations to resume the work for arranging the burial site effective from tomorrow at the ADC complex as was decided earlier.
