The dawn to dusk bandh in the hill districts of Senapati, Chandel, Ukhrul and Tamenglong called in protest against the October 2 twin blasts at Dimapur, was more or less total, according to Naga social leaders.
On the other hand the United Naga Council (UNC) which spearheaded today�s bandh in the Naga dominated hill districts of Manipur, said that except for Tamenglong district, the 12 hour bandh was total in the other districts namely Senapati, Ukhrul, and Chandel.
UNC president L Benjamin told Newmai News Network that he could not get in touch with Tamenglong but said that the bandh in Senapati, Ukhrul and Chandel districts was total as all the educational institutions both Government and private, business establishments and transporters suspended their daily routine for the day.
Inter-district transporters suspended their service in Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel and Tamenglong.
The bandh was total in Senapati, reports our correspondent and added that shops remained closed for the day and vehicles stayed off the road.
However Government offices remained open and attendance was not adversely affected.
In Ukhrul, too the bandh was a total success, reports our correspondent.
Buses cancelled service and no shops were opened.
There are no reports of any untoward incident in the district.
Educational institutions remained closed.
Chandel Naga Peoples' Organisation (CNPO), an apex Naga body in Chandel district which mobilised the bandh said it was total.
Informing NNN, CNPO president D Ringo said that even cycles and pedestrians stayed off the road.
D Ringo further said that Government offices, all educational institutions and business establishments were forced to close down by activists of the CNPO.
He also said that all the passengers buses and taxis leading to Chandel district were stopped from plying by CNPO volunteers.
Meanwhile, ANSAM vice-president Ngachonmi Chamroy while strongly condemning the recent twin blasts at Dimapur said that "this kind of terror tactics should not intimidate our desire for peace because we believe in peace and freedom".
