'Yaithibi Loukol' in Kakching to be Sports University site: Ibobi

Following the inspection of various sites recently by a team of Ministry of Sports, Government of India for establishing the first sports university in Manipur, the central team has reportedly conveyed its choice of the Yaithibi Loukol under Kakching Police station in Thoubal District.
This was disclosed by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh during the inauguration of the Children Park Community Hall at Kakching Makha Leikai here today.
The Children Park Community Hall has been constructed at the cost of Rs.66 lakhs, of which Rs.36 lakhs was from Manipur Development Society, Rs.20 lakhs from the Local Area Dev.
Fund of Kakching MLA Y.Surchandra and Rs.10 lakhs as the MLA's personal contribution.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Okram Ibobi emphasized that Kakching remains an important location for the programmes slated to be taken up by Government of India under its Look East Policy.

Considering its proximity to the national highway and convenient connectivity to neighboring countries like Myanmar, China and Thailand, Kakching has been chosen as the best site for construction of the sports university, stated the Chief Minister while adding that the decision for setting up the first ever sports university in Manipur has probably been taken in view of the achievements made by the sportspersons of the state at the international levels.
While assuring the villagers and farmers of the Yaithibi Loukol area that reasonable compensation for the lands to be acquired will be provided by the Government, Chief Minister Ibobi appealed to the people of Kakching area to extend support to the construction of the sports university.
He also said that the government would also provide settlements for the farmers at the western side of proposed university (west of NH 102), if the need arises.
The Chief Minister, while seeking the cooperation of the people, also announced that the Government is planning to establish an IIT centre for the state between the Khunuta Hills and Kakching Lamkhai, and a Timber Park at Laipham Lotnung at Kakching Lamkhai.
Citing the unique characters of Kakching, Ibobi said people of the area have work culture, unity and dedication in accomplishing development programmes.
The people extended valuable cooperation during the widening of Kakching Market Road, he recalled.
Maintaining that Kakching area has developed to a great extent with the efforts and dedication of its MLA Y.Surchandra, Ibobi said Kakching town has become a model town in the State.
While expressing his desire for having a big market at Kakching Lamkhai, the Chief Minister informed the gathering that the State Government is making proposals to the Centre for various development works in Kakching town.
Responding to the memorandum submitted by Representatives of Lois (ROL) and Students Union of Kha Manipur College, Kakching, the Chief Minister assured that the Government would take steps for instituting a separate Directorate for the Scheduled Castes.
On the reported non-release of post matriculate scholarships to SC students, Okram Ibobi further assured that the matter would be looked into and resolved shortly.
During the inauguration of the Children Park community hall today, MLA Y.Surchandra Singh of Kakching assembly constituency and MLA P.Brojen Singh of Wangjing constituency attended as President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Earlier, the local people extended a warm reception to the dignitaries with cultural programmes of the hills and valley.
