Imphal, September 19 2011:
Manipur Peoples Party (MPP) has decided to submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister through the Governor of Manipur, pressing the Central government to intervene on the issue of economic blockade which has given enormous problems to the people.
This was decided at a meeting exclusively held for the office bearers of MPP at its office near Polo Ground, Imphal today.
The meeting minutely discussed the impact of the economic blockade carried out by SHDDC demanding for a full fledged district hood and the counter economic blockade of the UNC on the common people.
Nimaichand Luwang, President, MPP, speaking to media persons after the meeting said that the people of the state is suffering owing to the economic blockade on all NHs of the state and MPP under such circumstances can no longer stay silent.
The party has decided to submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister and the HoneMinister through the Governor of Manipur, urging the central government to intervene in the said issue at the earliest possible time.
Condemning the act of imposition of economic blockade as a complete torture of the people, he further said that economic blockades on NHs is also a violation of the Constitution of India.
Considering this fact, the state government should try and solve the issue.
Or else the Central government should dissolve the state government and solve the issue on its own.
Further appealing to the agitators, Dr Nimaichand Luwang further said that the demands of the SHDDC, JDDC and others are no doubt reasonable, but the agitators should take up other means of agitation apart from economic blockades.
He also highlighted the various difficulties faced by the common people including the hike in prices of all the essential commodities.
Highlighting the series of agitations MPP will take up, he said that a sit in protest will be staged in front of the MPP's office on the 22nd September.
After that a series of sit in protests will be carried out at Bishnupur and Imphal East district on the 25th and 29 of September respectively.
