'CM persuades Irom Sharmila to join Congress'

Anti-AFSPA campaigner Irom Chanu Sharmila has disclosed that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi came to meet her at the JNIMS Security Ward on March 4 persuading her to join the Congress Party.
Sharmila made the startling revelation while talking to media persons a brief while before she was released from the security ward of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat today.
She further told media persons that Chief Minister acknowledged her crucial role in the anti-AFSPA campaign and persuaded her to work together for the cause by joining the Congress.
However, she did not give any reply to Ibobi, Sharmila said.

Dwelling on the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, the "Iron Lady" said that the pro-people politics of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) should not be undermined.
The changes brought by AAP Government in Delhi within few days should be appreciated by all, she added.
Irom Sharmila continues to fast after she was released from the security ward of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal where she has been languishing since the year 2000.However, Irom Sharmila will be re-arrested any moment from now.
Around 5:5 pm today, Sharmila was released from the security ward of JNIMS where she was received by a number of women folk of Sharmila Kanba Lup (Save Sharmila Movement).
Soon after her release Sharmila continues her fast at the make-shift camp of Sharmila Kanba Lup at Porompat without the tube that helps nose-fed her.
The make-shift camp is just few metres away from JNIMS.
Sharmila's term of putting in the jail is one year.
Once this period is completed she is released only to be re-arrested within 24 hours of her release.
On the ground that fast-unto death amounts to attempting to commit suicide, Sharmila was first arrested in the year 2000 and reward her a one year term.
She is put in the security ward of JNIMS and not in jail as she needs to be constantly under the observation of medical attendants as she is being forcibly nose-fed.
On November 2, 2000, Assam Rifles had killed 10 civilians near Imphal Airport (Malom).
Ever since she is demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 .
