Imphal, March 06 2016:
All Manipur School Students' Transporter
Association (AMSSTA) has expressed concern over State Trans-
port Department's move to invalidate the registration number and
license of those vehicles which do not abide by the guidelines of
the Supreme Court.
In a statement, the association alleged that the Government
has decided to take action against the transporters without
understanding the ground reality.
It said that the transporters
are eking out a living from transporting students and it would
be wrong if the Government thinks that they earn a lot through
this occupation.
In case the permissible number of students is
reduced according to the Supreme Court guidelines, the trans-
porters would face a huge problem in maintaining their families
as it is not viable to abruptly increase the fare.
The association has been adopting a normal practice of
carrying 18 students reading in Class I to X and 20 students
reading in Nursery to KG, the statement said.
Urging the Government to resolve the matter with the
association at the earliest, the statement said that the associa-
tion would suspend its service if the Government starts taking
action against them.
