Chingsubam Akaba fondly remembered on 10th death anniversary

Luchingpurel Chingsubam Akaba Ningsing Lup along with Citizens' Club observed the 10th death anniversary of Chingsubam Akaba at his memorial site at Wakha Leimaching at the foothill of Nongmaiching today.
Floral tributes were paid at the memorial site as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
As part of the observance function, a public gathering was organised at Citizens Club, Soibam Leikai Wangkhei Khunou wherein titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba; Kshetrigao AC MLA Nahakpam Indrajit and former Minister RV Minthing attended as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Leishemba Sanajaoba said that the remarkable contributions made by Chingsubam Akaba who championed the cause for Meetei Mayek and the traditional religion of the Meetei community will be always remembered.

He said that the demise of Akaba is a big loss for the people belonging to the different communities.
He thanked MLA Indrajit for giving clearance for construction of a community hall in front of Wakha Leimaching.
Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabananda has assured that he will bear the required money for the construction, the titular king said.
MLA Indrajit called upon the people to promote harmony and stand together against any threat to the territorial integrity of the State.
He also emphasised on the need to promote and develop Manipuri language.
RV Minthing said that unity amongst the people of the different ethnic groups is necessary to safeguard the territorial integrity of the State.
He further said that the cordial relation between the people of the hills and valley is inseparable.
President of Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) Thoudam Babuchand who was also present at the occasion said that the inclusion of Manipuri language in the Eight Schedule of the Indian Constitution was due to movements launched by Akaba in New Delhi.
He highlighted the notable contributions made by Akaba for mass usage of Meitei Mayek script in the State.
On the occasion, Luchingpurel Chingsubam Akaba Memorial Award 2017 was presented to Leihaotabam (N) Thouchom (O) Jibanmala.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10, 000, shawl and a certificate.
As a mark of respect, simple gifts were also presented to 40 close colleagues of Akaba.
An audio cassette of Tapta Jayenta was also released during the observance function.
