Imphal, March 20 2023:
Filling stations will be opened at all operational water supply schemes to provide water to the people in Imphal and Greater Imphal areas, said PHE Minister Leishangthem Susindro today.
The Minister made the statement while he was inspecting dredging works being taken up at a section of the Imphal River from Khurai Salanthong area to Singjamei area using JCB/ poclains.
The filling stations/points will provide water to tankers and the people.
This will help solve the problem of water scarcity people are facing, said the Minister.
The dredging work being taken up aims to make the water intake points in the river deeper.
All water intake points will be made 200-300 feet deeper for water to sink in, he added.
Water supply schemes with bigger and robust reservoirs will have at least 10 filling points each.
Steps are being taken up to make the Porompat Water Supply Scheme have a capacity of giving water to 50 tankers at a time, said the Minister.
Steps are also being taken up to improve and enhance all water supply schemes which are using water from Imphal River, he added stating that the dredging work will continue in the Imphal River to make the river bed clean of sediments and wider.
A total of 100 filling stations including stations at Khuman Lampak will be opened and 60 percent of the works have been completed, he added.
Amid all these steps being taken up, people should use water efficiently and not waste.
