Road closed to protest arrest

Residents under the jurisdiction of North Eastern Sporting Union (NESU), Khurai have indefinitely closed Ayangpalli road and DDK, Imphal road to protest the arrest of nine office bearers of NESU by the police.
Locals said that MLA of Khurai AC Leishangthem Sushildro (Yaima) called the police and made them arrest the nine leaders ofNESU on the ground that they oppose his activity.
Speaking to reporters today evening, president of NESU, Konsam Narendrajit said the roads will remain closed indefinitely until the arrested leaders are released without any condition and they are given a chance for talks with MLA Sushildro.
He said that works for expansion of Ayangpalli road and DDK Leirak was started under the supervision of MLA Sushildro some months back.
Narendrajit asserted that the club does not oppose the roads expansion, but set a condition before the MLA.
Since the expansion work would affect NESU ground and a public pond, the club had urged the MLA to look into that matter before the expansion of the road.
The club also urged the MLA to demarcate the northern boundary of the leirak.
A public meeting was held twice in this connection and the third one is being planned on Nov 14.During an inspection today by the MLA, the nine leaders of the club conveyed to him to wait till the outcome of the Nov 14 meeting.
However, the MLA called the police and made them arrest the nine leaders, Narendrajit said.
Being a leader, the MLA should not consider or see only his personal interest, he said while categorically asking the CM whether the Govt is in the hand of MLA Yaima.
He also urged the CM to intervene on the matter.
MLA O Henry, who came to the protest site, said the action of MLA Sushildro was very unfortunate.
