Haraothel chief urges establishment of police outpost at Haraothel to check illegal excavation

The village chief of Haraothel has alleged serious illegal excavation of hills/forest of the village by miscreants using heavy machineries and urged the DFO Northern Forest Division, Manipur to take immediate action.
The Chief of Haraothel village also urged the DGP to open a police outpost immediately at Haraothel village to protect the life and liberty of the people of the village.
Haotinmang Vaiphei, chief of Haraothel, reported to the DFO Northern Forest Division, Manipur, Assistant Public Information Officer (APIO), Forest and Environment that the hills and forest of Haraothel village within the Beat Office of Sardar, under the range of Kangchup-Geljang, have been a seriously and illegally devastated and excavated by miscreants using heavy machineries.
He also urged the authority concerned to take up immediate action and apprehend the individuals and machineries involved in the illegal excavation of hills and forest of Haraothel village.
He further said that he has also informed the DGP about the matter and requested him to open a police outpost immediately so as to protect the life and liberty of the villagers of Haraothel.
In his report to the DGP, the Haraothel chief alleged that taking the advantage of the ongoing construction of National Sports University, many miscreants have been committing illegal excavation of the forest and hills of Haraothel without any official order or permission.
"When we tried to stop them they threatened the villagers with dire consequences", he alleged.
He also said that the matter was also relayed to SP Kangpokpi, OC, Gamnom-Sapormeina and Leimakhong although there is no unwanted incident till date.
But there is a great apprehension that the miscreants may attack the villagers any time since their illegal excavation ofhills and forest has been strongly resisted by the villagers of Haraothel, he added.
