Imphal, November 27 2021:
As a part of the Jan Jagran Abhiyan, a large number of Congress supporters from Kshetrigao Constituency took out a rally at Porompat, today.
Jan Jagran Abhiyan is a Nationwide campaign against inflation and price rise of essential commodities launched by the Congress.
During the rally, a scuffle broke out between the protesters and the police for a brief moment at Porompat junction.
The rally then proceeded towards Porompat DC road and concluded at Porompat Thawanthaba Leikai.
Speaking to the media, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) general secretary Punam Rani Wangkhem condemned the police for 'snatching' the festoons and flags of Congress party and loud speakers during the rally.
She contended that the Government is only muzzling the voice of the people by foiling such a peaceful rally and asked if democracy carries any meaning if the citizens could not express their discontentment and dissatisfaction with the Government's policy.
Rani then urged the BJP led State Government and the Centre to decrease the price of fuel and essential commodities in the larger interest of the people.
The MPCC general secretary who intends to fight election on Congress ticket from Kshetrigao AC drew the attention of Chief Minister N Biren over the skyrocketing fuel and other essential commodities prices in the State.
