Rally demands release of Sagar Prashad

Hundreds of students held peace rallies today at Kangpokpi seeking kidnapped student Sagar Prashad's release, and warned of calling a 24-hour Sadar hills bandh from February 28 midnight if he was not released.
The rally organized jointly by the Kuki Students' Organisation, Sadar hills and 'JAC Against Kidnapping of Sagar Prashad, Kangpokpi' set off from St Thomas ground, Kangpokpi and after handing over a memorandum to the Kangpokpi ADC for onward submission to the CM.
With the ADC out of office, the memorandum was submitted to the OC of Kangpokpi PS.
Sagar Prashad (13) son of Suresh Prashad of Kangpokpi was kidnapped by suspected KCP(MC) cadres on a ransom demand of ' 50,000 on February 20 .
The KSO said that the kidnapping of the student was the first of its kind in the Sadar hills and it has taken the matter seriously stating that it signals a failure of the law and order enforcing agencies in the state.
Earlier, an emergency meeting of the Kuki Innpi Sadar Hills, KSO, Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation, Kangpokpi Youth Union and all communities residing on both sides of NH 39 was held at the Kangpokpi town hall today.
Subsequently the meeting decided to form a 'JAC Against Kidnapping of Sagar Prashad, with Ngamlien Haokip as convener.
Thangminlien Kipgen, president KSO, Sadar Hills said that the KSO is unhappy because the government has remained silent.
If the state government fails to take up necessary action for the safe release of the kidnapped boy, then any untoward incident arising out of it will be the sole responsibility of the government, he warned.
