Imphal, March 24 2014:
The split in the Left and Secular Alliance of nine political parties, which are non-Congress and non-BJP, finally come to the fore on Monday after its main constituent JD-U distances itself from the alliance and declaring its stand to support Trinamool Congress candidate S Manaobi instead of the common candidate for the Inner Parliamentary Constituency Dr..MNara of the CPI in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls in the State.
At the same time, the State unit of Samata Party has also decided to support the TMC candidate for the Inner Parliamentary Constituency.
Addressing reporters at his party office here today, JD-U Manipur unit president M Tombi took a dig at the Left Party accusing it of disintegrating Left-Secular Alliance, which is considered as the third front in the State.
He further attacked the Left-Wing parties for the breakup of the bloc of nine parties and alleged that under the tacit leadership of Trinamool chief Mamta Banerjee, the role played by Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India-Marxist has led to the downfall.
Tombi said, "The Left-Secular Alliance has ceased to exist in the State from today" .
JD-U had been taking a key role in fielding Dr Nara as the common candidate for the Inner Parliamentary Constituency, Tombi said, and blamed the split in the alliance on all the constituent units.
He said they (constituents of the alliance) have made their unilateral stand to support Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency after the latter declared its support for Dr Nara.
"They've forgotten the alliance and created the grounds for splitting it," the JD-U leader asserted.
Flanked by M Ibomcha of Manipur unit of Samata Party, Tombi further said now the State JD-U has started preparation for campaigning for TMC candidate Manaobi, and added that joining hands with the parties in the Left-Secular Alliance have really dampened the spirit of the polls because some of them do not have even their own party offices.
M Ibomcha also announced his party's decision to support JD-U in the upcoming polls.
TMC candidate Manaobi was also present at the press meet.
