World Mental Health Day observed

Kangpokpi, October 16 2018:
Hundreds of people across Saikul sub-division in Kangpokpi District observed World Mental Health Day today at the sub-divisional Headquarters.
The observation was organized at Saikul village Church Community Hall by District Health Society, Kangpokpi in collaboration with CHC Saikul under the theme "Young people and mental health in the changing world".
ADC Sadar Hills Vice-Chairman, Thangjakam Misao, Thongjalun Mate, ADC Sadar Hills Councillor, Goupu Chongloi, president KSO Saikul and Dr J Touthang, CMO/DMD Kangpokpi attended the event as presidium members.
Otkam Khongsai, general secretary, Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai, Maj Peter, Post Commander, 38 AR Saikul outpost, Lalseh Chongloi, Chairman, Saikul Hill Town, Ngaithem Chongloi, president KWU Saikul, proprietor/Principal/Headmasters of Model English Higher Secondary School, Christian English High School, Thangtong Government Higher Secondary School, LL Henjou English High School and representatives from Saikul Area Private School Association attended as special invitees.

Officer in-charge of Community Health Centre Saikul emphasized on the issues of mental health and shared his experience of working with mentally challenged patients.
The Medical Officer also urged the participants to give attention to their mental well being and stressed the various factors which contributes to mental illness like GAD (General Anxiety Disorder) and FND (Function Neurological Disorder).
D Benjamin Haokip, research scholar at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, who also attended the event as resource person spoke about mental health and the issues and challenges the youths are facing in society.
"Mental health is as important as physical health", asserted D Benjamin Haokip and added that mental illness is a public health concern.
