CCPur, July 15 2020:
A little over a dozen villagers of Nahjang located within Henglep sub-division took the onus of shoulder-carrying their fellow villager on a bamboo buggy for about 15 kilometers to reach the nearest motorable road that will take him to hospital for treatment.
Fifty-six year old Khailun Haokip, sources said, had met an accident while plucking paan leaves in the wild on Saturday.
The paan leaves which are creepers growing on wild trees was his major source of income but on Saturday amidst the drizzling, Haokip accidentally slipped and fell from a tree about 30 ft high.
He was alone and after regaining consciousness, he somehow managed to walk towards his village but was exhausted on the way.
Meanwhile, his family members mounted a search after dusk as he had not returned home at the usual hour and found him exhausted and badly injured, added the source.
With no medical facilities or the means to tend to his injuries at the village, about a dozen youths from the village volunteered and carried him on their shoulder in a makeshift buggy till Bungkot village, located about 15 kms away which was the nearest motorable village.
On reaching Bungkot, he was taken to the District Hospital Churachandpur by vehicle.
The doctors attending him discovered that he had suffered injuries in the head, chest, waist and legs.
Eventually he was referred to RIMS for further treatment.
Haokip was minutely examined at RIMS and has now left the hospital to continue his treatment at home, said a source.
