Ex-MLA challenges disqualification order

Ex-MLA of Andro Assembly Constituency Thounaojam Shyamkumar has filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging his disqualification as an MLA under anti-defection law.
The Court will hear the petition challenging the March 28 disqualification order of the Speaker's Tribunal on July 17 along with other pending cases.
In addition to Shyamkumar's petition, the Court is also hearing disqualification cases filed against three Congress MLAs and petitions challenging the Speaker's order of June 18 which disqualified three Congress MLAs.
It may be noted that Yengkhom Surchandra of Kakching AC, Ksh Biren of Lamlai AC and Sanasam Bira of Kumbi AC were disqualified by the Speaker's Tribunal on June 18, a day before the Rajya Sabha election and subsequently petitions were filed challenging their disqualifi- cations.
A division bench of the Court comprising Justice Lanusungkum Jamir and Justice A Bimol on July 7 had issued notice to the Speaker and gave 10 days time to submit counter affidavit.
On the other hand, the disqualification cases the Court is hearing on July 17, were filed against Congress MLAs, O Lukhoi of Wangoi AC, Ngamthang Haokip of Saitu AC and Ginsuanhau of Singhat AC.
The cases were filed by Congress MLAs K Meghachandra, K Ranjit and O Surjakumar.
