Thoubal in a tizzy after Pradhan, Member, VDF man test positive

Creating tension and uncertainty among the people, four persons including one Pradhan, one Member of a Gram Panchayat, a VDF personnel and a quarantine centre volunteer have tested positive for COVID-19 today at Thoubal.
Adding more to the tension, a person at Thoubal Khunou who was sent home after testing negative has also been confirmed for the virus.
The whole of Thoubal Khunou has also been declared a containment zone.
Following the detection of the cases, several areas including Moijing Awang Leikai, Athokpam Makha Leikai and the quarantine centres have been declared as containment zones and district administration and health authorities are on high alert in the district.
Sources in the Health Department said that the Pradhan hails from Moijing Awang Leikai in Thoubal and he was looking after a quarantine centre opened at the locality.
His case was detected late night yesterday, said sources.
The source also mentioned that on June 26 the Pradhan had contacts with a cop, who tested positive for COVID-19 on July 6 at Jiribam.
However, another 28 persons who had contact with the cop tested negative.
The Gram Panchayat Member was also engaged with works at a quarantine centre.
On the other hand, the VDF personnel was stationed at the quarantine centre opened at Thoubal College.
During the time (posting) at the quarantine centre, he also went home as he was feeling unwell, said sources.
Stepping up the containment and preventive measures, door to door testing of suspected cases will be done from tomorrow.
However, there is no community transmission in Manipur, said the sources in the Health Department.
Meanwhile, the person from Thoubal Khunou was discharged on July 13 from a quarantine centre after testing negative for COVID-19 .
However, he was tested positive the next day prompting district administration to declare the locality a containment zone.
With the rising number of infections among police and CRPF personnel, mass testing of all personnel may be conducted soon.
The Health Department is taking up all measures to effect the tests.
On the other hand, rapid antigen testing will also be conducted across the State, said a notification of the Health Directorate.
Spiking the number of cases in the State, three cases have been detected at JNIMS while one has been detected at RIMS late today.
The person who tested positive at RIMS hails from Kamjong.
The police personnel who tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday is being evacuated to Imphal.
However, the ambulance carrying the personnel is stuck at Nungdolan area in Jiribam due to a landslide.
A report from the COVID-19 Common Control Room showed that 28 persons including 19 males and 9 females have tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
They hail from Imphal West (10), Jiribam (1), Kakching (1), Kamjong (4), Tamenglong (1) and Thoubal (11) .
60 persons have also been discharged improving the recovery rate to 63.52 pc.
The State now has 1700 cases.
Number of active cases is 620, added the Covid-19 Common Control Room.
