Livestock health awareness campaign in Ukhrul

A three-day livestock health awareness cum mass vaccination campaign was kick-started yesterday at Nungbi Khullen in Ukhrul district under the aegis of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services department.
According to a statement, the main objective of conducting campaign was to vaccinate livestock as well as to give awareness to livestock owners about various precautionary measures of livestock's diseases and the need to give timely vaccination.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Th Debendra Kumar, Joint Director District Veterinary Office, Ukhrul deliberated on two fatal and economically important diseases of cattle and buffaloes, Hemorrhagic Septicema (HS) and Black Quarter (BQ).
He urged the cattle owners to vaccinate their cattles every year before the onset of monsoon, the statement said.
On the first day, around 100 dogs and 150 cattles were vaccinated as a measure to prevent them from Rabies and BQ .
The mass vaccination will continue till April 16 with an aim to vaccinate 1000 cattles at Nungbi and its surrounding villages, it added.
