Manipur Silang Loumi Lup on Sunday held its 3rd 'State Conference' at the Manipur Hindi Parishad office complex, Old Assembly Road here.
Explaining the important role played by the Bharatiya Khet Mazdoor Union (BKMU) since the pre-independence period, BKMU National General Secretary BS Nirmal said the union now has more than 3 crore members across the country.
But the BKMU leader regretted that a technology revolution is fast replacing human with machines posing a serious threat to farmers.
Nirmal accused the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre of trying to contravene the rights of farmers by introducing several bills against their interest.
He pledged that all BKMU would stand up together against such policies of the Central Government.
Earlier, a flag hoisting ceremony was held at the venue and later the participants paid homage to all late members of the union.
Besides Nirmal, the conference was also attended by All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur general secretary L Sotinkumar, vice president Salam Yaima, Manipur Silang Loumi Lup president Kh Ibobi, general secretary N Jateshwor, vice president W Radha Devi and Manipur Nupi Lup president M Shakhi Devi.
A book written by L Sotinkumar was also released on the occasion.
