Imphal, December 30 2020:
Apropos to the statement made to the press on December 27 by the president of Zeliangrong Baudi, the Joint Tribes Council, a conglomerate body of representatives of Inpui, Liangmei, Rongmei and Zeme people of Manipur has proclaimed that the term 'Zeliangrong' once used has been dissolved by its constituent tribesmen viz : Zeme, Liangmei and Rongmei as it excluded Inpui tribe thereby.
The use of 'Zeliangrong' nomenclature ceased in order to accommodate its kindred tribe, the Inpui and subsequently an adhoc body with the name and style of 'Joint Tribes Council' was formed to represent the Inpui, Liangmei, Rongmei and Zeme people of Manipur through respective apex bodies-Inpui Naga Union (INU), Liangmei Naga Council (LNC), Rongmei Naga Council (RNC) and Zeme Naga Council (ZNC) respectively till a suitable unified body is formed, it said.
Therefore, the unscrupulous use of unmandated names such as Zeliangrong Baudi during such a crucial juncture confused the people and was uncalled for, it said.
The political stand of the Inpui, Liangmei, Rongmei and Zeme people is loud and clear and ever since they were represented by the 'Zeliangrong' organisations, they have been given the mandate and the same stands even today, said the Joint Tribes Council while asserting that it supports the ongoing Indo-Naga peace process led by the NSCN (IM) .
The Joint Tribes Council also appealed to the members of the Inpui, Liangmei, Rongmei and Zeme people to come to the mainstream, reason together and put forth a united voice.
Saying that it is a people based organisation, the Joint Tribes Council also urged all to understand the facts and move forward unitedly leaving behind the differences for the common good.
