AFSPA extended for another year in Manipur

Imphal, December 30 2020:
Controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, (AFSPA) 1958 has been extended in the state of Manipur excluding the seven Assembly Segment of Imphal area for a period of one year.
Contrary to the claim for restoration of peace and normalcy in the state of Manipur by various leaders of the country as well as of the state government, a notification by H Gyan Prakash, Special Secretary Home , Government of Manipur issued in the name of the governor of Manipur stated that the governor of Manipur is of the opinion that due to violent activities of various extremist/insurgent groups , the entire state of Manipur is in such a disturbed condition that the use of Armed Forces in aid of civil power is necessary.
Declaring the state as "disturbed area" the AFSPA has been extended as per the provision .
