S Rajen inaugurates Chengei floodlit football ground

Education Minister S Rajen Singh has inaugurated the renovated Chengei floodlighted football ground at Moirang, today.
The ground was renovated with a budget of Rs 50 lakh of which Rs 35 lakh was donated by local MLA P Sharatchandra.
The remaining Rs 15 lakh came from the Local Area Development Fund.
The ground inauguration programme organised by the Chengei Lampak Sports Complex Management Committee was also attended by titular king of Moirang, K Ibqhal Singh, Moirang AC MLA, P Sharatchandra, MLA Oinam AC & Chairman MPCB & KVIB, L Radhakishore Singh, MLA Thanga AC T Robindro Singh, Chairperson, Moirang Municipal Council, M Romibala Devi, Kwakta Municipal Council Chairperson, Minarjan and Thinungei Zilla Parishad Member O Joychandra.
Addressing the gathering, S Rajen stated that opening a ground with a floodlight facility in this historically important place is indeed a proud moment for the people.
He maintained that the ground would be of service to people of nearby localities and constituencies too.
Saying that Manipur is known for its ability to win laurels in big championships of both National and International level, the Minister continued that installing floodlights to this ground will help produce more good athletes/players from the area.
Meanwhile, MLA P Sharatchandra stated that he is able to contribute in the renovation work following the footsteps of previous Moirang AC MLAs and leaders.
A similar renovation work would also be carried out at Kwakta and Ngangkhalawai shortly, he added.
Continuing that another renovation project of the ground worth Rs 1.5 crore under Khelo India might come up by March 2021, P Sharatchandra said that a gallery with 5 lakhs seating capacity would be constructed if the amount is sanctioned.

after the ground.
