Imphal, December 30 2020:
Members of Konthoujam Kangjeibung Mapal Chaokhat Khongthang Lup and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) jointly organised a sit in protest at Konthoujam Kangjeibung Mapal in Imphal West district today urging the Government to move the drug haul case of 2018 to a higher Court for reinvestigation.
Dipanjit Ningthoujam, vice president CADA and Kakyenpaibam Bimolini, president of Konthoujam Kangjeibung Mapal Chaokhat Khongthang Lup delivered speeches during the protest, as per a statement by CADA.
Dipanjit said that since the case is between the State Government and Lhukhosei Zou, a civilian cannot appeal to a higher Court and therefore urged the Government to make the appeal for reinvestigation to a higher Court and provide befitting punishment to all those involved in the drug haul case.
Kayenpaibam Bimolini said that they will continue their protest until justice is delivered and urged the Government to move a higher Court for a fair and transparent trial.
She further stated that everyone should strengthen war on drugs since it can ruin the whole society of Manipur.
Voicing the same demand, Taretkhul Nishaband Committee, the New Gold Club, Taretkhul and CADA also jointly staged a sit in protest at Taretkhul Keithel in Imphal East district today.
Slogans like 'Don't mock war on drugs', 'Punish the drug dealers', were raised by the participants at the end of the protest.
