A team of doctors from Apollo Speciality Cancer Hospital, Chennai will make facilities of treating lungs cancer, liver cancer and brain tumors by robotic radio-surgery available on the last day of the ongoing Manipur Tourism Festival-2009 .
In a special interaction with Hueiyen Lanpao, deputy general manager of the hospital, P Mathruprashad claimed that lungs cancer, liver cancer and brain tumor can be treated by robotic radio-surgery as the ray emitted by the machine can kill cancer cells of this type.
While eliminating the cancer causing cells, the ray does not affect other cells.
This equipment has cured as many as 170 persons with cancer in the country as well as from abroad, he added.
No pain occurs to the human body while applying the ray emitted by the machine.
The ray functions like robot in eliminating the cell causing cancer.
A patient treated by this equipment can come to normalcy at the earliest possible time.
The machine is developed by Accuray Company based in USA in 1998.The Apollo Hospital imported it for the first time in India in March this year.
Thailand has also bought the machine.
The machine cost around Rs 4 lakh in Indian currency.
He said that to avail the facilities of treating cancer patients of Manipur, a team of doctors including senior consultant of radio oncology of the Apollo Hospital P Mahdev, stroke neurologist Dr Jayenta Roy, cardiologist Dr PS Mandal are arriving in Imphal.
They will examine cancer patients from 4 pm till 8 pm on December 20, the last day of tourism festival.
They will also examine patients at Apollo Gleneagles Hospital information centre at Kwaketihel from 8 am till 11 am everyday.
