Imphal, December 18 2009:
The state government has issued stern directive to all schools to resume normal classes from December 21 without fail.
An office memorandum issued by M Harekrishna, Additional Secretary, Education Department (School Section), Government of Manipur today stated that the government has issued a number of press releases, the latest being the appeal of December 7 by the Education Minister to facilitate resumption of normal classes.
The government appreciates the efforts made by the respective schools to conduct classes specially for Class X, XI and XII students, and ensure that their future is not jeopardised.
However, the governemnt views the inability of the schools to resume normal classes for the other classes with all seriousness and concern, the official memorandum says.
The government has minutely discussed all issues regarding the class closure by the schools, and decided to issue directives to the schools.
That no school shall give promotion any student without conducting appropriate examination; normal schooling should precede the promotion examinations, and inability to resume normal classes shall be viewed seriously by the government warranting further appropriate actions, warned the office memorandum.
The government once again requested all schools which are yet to open and resume normal classes to start resumption of normal classes from December 21 in public interest, particularly in the interest of the students.
It may be recalled here that three student bodies, namely AMSU, MSF and KSA had started boycotting classes from September 9 last in solidarity with the Apunba Lup which had made various demands to the state government including resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi, transfer top police officials, punishment to police commandos who were directly involved in the Khwairamband market killings, etc.
