Imphal, February 05 2015:
Decrying the alleged harassment meted out to travellers by Assam Rifles personnel on NH-102, Nupi Samaj, AMKIL, Tami Chingmi Apunba Lup, EECHAL, UPF, AMSU and All Manipur Muslim Development Organisation have pledged support to the people's movement launched in this connection.
Speaking at a press conference conducted by these organisations at AMSU headquarters, AMKIL president Sakhi said that forcing an expecting mother to walk for around 1 km and detention of travellers at Tengnoupal by Assam Rifles troops have crossed all the limits of humanity.
It is condemnable that Assam Rifles troops, who are deputed there to protect common people, are allegedly harassing the public, she added.
The seven organisations would pledge support to every agitation launched by the people of Tengnoupal if Assam Rifles are not withdrawn from the area at the earliest, Sakhi said.
HRD secretary of AMSU, Manjit Sarangthem said that giving fear psychosis to the general public and harassing travellers by Assam Rifles have hurt the sentiments of the general public.
Saying that various forms of atrocities are allegedly being meted out by security forces under the cover of AFSPA, the student leader said that the conduct of Assam Rifles is a clear testimony that security forces are given a free hand in the State.
Maintaining that even Ministers were allegedly not spared by AR troops, Manjit said that AMSU together with seven CSOs would support the people's movements initiated against the conduct of AR troops.
