Imphal, March 13 2014 :
A girl from Nepal, who reached Manipur in search of her childhood lover and lost way on the streets of Imphal, has been successfully rescued by different agencies and handed over to her father today.
Hailing from Kharka village in Maya Goli district, West Nepal, Yamuna (23) (name changed) started her journey to Manipur without informing to anybody in the first week of March.
According to the girl, she made an excuse to go to the chemist's shop to purchase medicine.
She carried some Nepal money and got exchanged at Kakarvita.
She reached Guwahati on March 6 and booked a ticket at Guwahati ISBT to Kohima but she didn't stop in Kohima intentionally as her destination was Manipur.
After she reached Imphal, she headed towards Ukhrul district where she was staying in Family Line, Somsai with her parents and siblings from 2004 to March 2005 as her father was in Assam Rifles.
During that period, she felt in love with a boy from Jammu and Kashmir.
The boy happened to be their neighbour and he was also working in Assam Rifles.
Unfortunately, she had to leave India and shifted to her native country Nepal because of her father's retirement from the service.
From that time onwards, she lost contact with her lover although she could not forget him all these long nine years.
So, she decided to travel to Manipur in search of her childhood lover.
In Somsai, Yamuna was sad and tired of her journey as she could neither find her lover nor any family or friends.
She returned to Imphal after staying a night in somebody's house there and lost her way at Malom area.
Fortunately, she was given shelter by Irungbam Manihar Meitei of Malom Tulihal Makha Leikai.
Manihar's family contacted Sinam Memcha, who is an employee of Women Education and and Childcare Centre.
Sinam Memcha contacted Social Welfare Department through one Shantikumar.
The Department then referred the matter to Manipur Scheduled Castes Welfare Association (MASCWA) .
Yamuna was picked up from Malom Tulihal Makha Leikai at around 5.30 pm on March 10 by Th Shakhenbi, an employee of MASCWA under the guidance of MASCWA Chairman N Biren.
The girl was kept in the Rehabilitation and Protective Home of Ujjawala Project of the MASCWA Organisation from March 10 to 13 .
The organisation gave a report to the Lamphel Police Station on March 11 to maintain a record.
Later, MASCWA contacted Yamuna's father Bhakta Bahadur Pun, who reached Imphal on March 12 at around 6.45 pm.
Bhakta Bahadur Pun was crossed examined at the office of MASCWA and found to be girl's real father.
At last, the managing committee and staff along with the officials of Social Welfare Department handed over the girl to her father in front of the media today.
