The United NGOs Mission Manipur (UNMM) has flayed the Commanding Officer of 8 Assam Rifles for shouting abusive language at womenfolk during a scuffle at Noney on April 6 .
Saying that the conduct of the CO was an instance of violence against women, UNMM in a statement said that the army officer had violated the International Convention on Elimination of All Forms Discrimination Against Women.
He must be tried under Violence Against Women Act in a first track Court, the statement said and added that the CO had insulted the women community.
In the light of Noney incident and all the ill-treatment and harassment meted out by AR troops to innocent civilians, UNMM demanded the authority concerned to punish the officers/soldiers of Assam Rifles who have committed heinous crimes against humanity and bring them under trial as per law of the land, terminate all the officers of Assam Rifles, who have committed crimes to innocent people, stop harassment, torture and detention of the civilians on the National Highways, remove the unnecessary posts of AR and stop harassing innocent people, remove AFSPA for some months on trial basis in some districts, review the special power given to security personnel and compensate the victims appropriately.
