Imphal, April 08 2015 :
The United NGOs Mission Manipur has condemned the reported provoking statement of the 8 Assam Rifles commanding officer at the other day at Noney while making some arrests.
It says that it is violative of the international convention on elimination of all forms of discrimination against women.
He made the objectionable statement as he was ADSPA wired.
It is taking strong exception to the way innocent civilians were subjected to degraded treatment and harassment at Noney on April 6 Harassment and ill treatment of anyone after arre4st is a "war crime".
While the court is yet to decide whether the arrested person is a cadre of the Zeliangrong United Front it is crime for the Assam Rifles to arrest an innocent person without proper reason and investigation.
Except for the alleged cadre all others were set free latter.
It further says that the personnel of 24 Assam Rifles deployed at Khudengthabi near the international border have been harassing the passengers.
Even ministers and their entourages are subjected to detentions.
Community leaders were also subjected to such harassments by personnel of other Assam Rifles camps.
It is suggesting suspension of the AFSPA for some months on trial basis.
