N Dilip Kumar conferred Thiyam Ibochoubi National Award

Ningthoukhongjam Dilip Kumar of Agartala, Tripura has been awarded Thiyam Ibochoubi National Award, 2018.The award was given away by Art and Culture Minister L Jayantakumar Singh in a simple function held at Manipur Hindi Prishad, Old Assembly Road, Imphal.
The award comprises one shawl, a citation and cash award of ten thousand rupees.
N Dilip Kumar was born to N Chandrahas Singh and Ningombam Ningol Ningthoukhongjam Ongbi Nalini Devi on May 8, 1951 at Dhaleshwar in Agartala.
He has published many short stories and poems in magazines such as Marup, Saratki Echel, Takhel Leirang and Tripura Che.
His works include Bangla translations of biography on Hijam Irabot titled - Hijam Irabot Singh (2015) and IS Kangjam's Pictru (2015) among others.
Speaking at the award ceremony cum observance of 122nd birth anniversary of Hijam Irawat and International Translation Day observation, Jayantakumar lauded the role of writers in the society.
He asserted that translation itself is a big art.
It cannot be taken as an easy job.
One needs to have the same feeling and emotion before translating a text or a story, he added.
Calling Lamyanba Hijam Irawat a friend of the poor, the Minister maintained that the selfless deeds Irawat rendered for the people of North-East particularly Manipur is very precious.
"He was a man of action who shaped a movement for freedom from oppression.
Irawat was a true leader," he said.
Regarding the problems faced by the writers of the State, Jayantakumar assured that a guest house of the writers has been planned to be constructed at Wakha, Imphal East.
Detailed project report has been prepared for the proposed guest house, he added.
Gracing the Occasion as functional president, Director Information and Public Relations, Manipur H Balkrishna Singh said that the role of writers in the society is indeed vast.
"Different forms of writings and literatures reflect the society and pave ways for development and peace," he added citing the importance of literatures.
He also stressed the need of a publishers' guild in order to facilitate the publishers including the writers of the State in areas like marketing and others.
He also maintained that DIPR, Manipur has been encouraging the local writers by recognising their literary pieces.
The award ceremony cum observance of 122nd birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat and International Translation Day was also attended by Director Art and Culture A Shivdas Sharma and N Dilip Kumar as guests of honour.
The function was organised by the Sahitya Thoupang Lup, Imphal.
