Imphal, September 19 2016:
The State Coordinating Committee of Hmar Students' Association (HSA-SCC) has expressed its disappointment over the alleged indifferent attitude of the State Government to the genuine issues of tribal people of Jiribam concerning upgradation of the sub-division to a full-fledged district.
In a statement the committee said that the Tribal Rights Demand Committee has been spearheading the movement regarding the tribal people of Jiribam.
The committee had submitted a number of memoranda to the Chief Minister highlighting the plights of tribal people and seeking an alternative arrangement rather than a full-fledged district.
Despite all these efforts, no positive response had been received so far, the statement added.
It alleged that the Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) was constituted by a particular section of people and tribals are not part of JDCC.
The committee further said that the MoU signed between JDDC and the State Govt in 2011 clearly overlooked the rights and privileges of tribal people and HSA-SCC would never accept any agreement based on this MoU.
