Imphal, September 19 2016:
Stating that Manipur is now witnessing a new wave of industrialism and entrepreneurship, Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam has pledged that his department would take up all possible measures to promote rapid growth of industries in the State.
He was speaking at the 15 th foundation day of Lismart Industries at Hotel Imphal here today.
MLA L Nandakumar, State Government consultant RK Nimai, Commerce and Industries Director B John Langtingkhuma were also present at the foundation day celebration.
Govindas said that State entrepreneurs who have started experimenting with different industrial units deserve appreciation and support.
The State has been already manufacturing different plastic materials.
The State Government would soon check whether these plastic products are harmful to health or not and whether they conform to the standard quality or not.
With the primary objective of promoting industrial growth, industrial estates have been established at different districts.
These industrial estates would enable entrepreneurs to set up different manufacturing units thereby generating employment, Govindas said.
MLA Nandakumar said that the State Government need to reduce taxes and provide subsidies in order to promote industries in the State.
RK Nimai said that people of Manipur need to be well prepared before the Trans-Asian Highway, rail connectivity and the Act East Policy become realities.
"If we are not prepared enough to face the impending onslaught, Manipuri men may end up being porters", RK Nimai said.
People of the State would not be able to reap any benefit out of these projects if the entire trade and commerce are monopolized by outsiders.
He then underscored the importance of reliable power supply in order to make the industry movement a success.
