Imphal, September 19 2016:
The Coordinating Body of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (CBSTDCM) has conveyed gratitude to all the participants of the mass rally held yesterday on the demand for enlistment of Meetei/Meitei in ST category.
A press release issued by CBSTDCM claimed that the rally was participated by more than 1.5 lakh people.
For the past 67 years since Manipur has been merged with the Indian Union and Meiteis/Meeteis have been living without any Constitutional safeguard.
As a result, Meiteis/Meeteis have been facing a serious existential crisis.
Enlistment of Meetei/Meitei in the ST category would not only enable them to protect their identity but would also strengthen the bond of fraternity shared among different indigenous communities of the land, it asserted.
It also conveyed gratitude to the Government and private hospitals which sent ambulances for the rally and media houses which covered it.
The CBSTDCM has no intention to obscure or confuse any other issue nor does it have the slightest inclination to infringe upon the rights and interests of other communities.
