Ukhrul, January 05 2014:
Even as the Government has come up with policy and provision to provide foodgrains to the people at subsidised rates, two months quotas of BPL and AAY rice of 2013 for Ukhrul district were found swindled, the Targeted Public Distribution System Rationing Agents' Association alleged.
The monthly quotas of BPL rice for the district is 2120.30 quintals while AAY rice is 1353 quintals and APL rice is 948.56 quintals besides the additional 510 quintals per month.
At the same time, Superfine (PDS) rice is sold in the open market of Ukhrul at Rs 2200 and above per quintal.
Speaking to media persons today at Viewland here, President of TPDSRAA of Ukhrul AC, S Shaiza said that the agents have already deposited two months' fees for BPL and AAY rice for 2013 although the share is found to be lapsed.
Slamming the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the department concerned, S Shaiza also doubted that the January 2014 share may also be lapsed as usual.
The Jt Secy of TPDS, H Ruivah strongly denounced the alleged slackness of officials concerned.
The officials' alleged insincerity has caused much hardship to the public in every front, he pointed out.
But when contacted, the Inspector of CAF/PDS, Ukhrul, Kanmi said that the details of the beneficiaries lists are yet to be identified as the Block level Officer delayed in verification and identification of BPL and AAY beneficiaries list preparation.
He clarified that after 20 days of a month the foodgrains were released to the respective agents.
The agents have meanwhile decided to file an FIR against the concerned department in their attempt to bring justice in the matter.
