NYK encourages youths to say 'no' to drugs

Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Thoubal organised a day-long awareness programme on prevention of substance abuse and alcoholism at the Huidrom Maning Leikai United Club Hall with Okram Bijen Singh, Member of Wangkhem Gram Panchayat as President.
In all 45 local youths participated in the programme.
Speaking during the programme, Ch.
Basanta, District Programme Officer of NYK Thoubal appealed to the youths of the district to join hands in fighting against drugs and alcohol use in the district.
He pointed out that these days youths are using narcotics, stimulants, hallucinogens, solvents and cannabis for mood swings.
Being close to golden triangle, the second largest drug producing region in the world, Manipur has become the transit route, thus making drugs easily accessible to youths.
On the other hand, substance like Erase-X, Cough Syrup, dendrite, N10, SP tablet etc.
have been started using widely abuse by adolescents and youths through peer pressure.
He exhorted the youths present in the programme to capacitate themselves to say, "NO" to drugs.
For this, NYK is also organising youth leadership and capacity building training for the youths, he said, while pointing out that the youth club leaders should active role in prevention of substance abuse.
Combining addiction treatment, medications with behavioral therapy will help in improving the normal life for those substance abusers and addicts, he added.
To promote a healthy nation without drugs, sports items were also distributed during the programme.
