Digging noticed on notified areas
Source: The Sangai Express
Imphal, January 05 2014:
Some people have been digging and collecting mud and sand from areas already notified for acquisition by the State Government for expansion of Imphal-Churachandpur section of NH-150 .
A Cabinet meeting held last year decided to expand Tidim Road up to 50 feet in bazar areas and 75 feet in other areas from Malom to Torbung.
After Imphal West and Bishnupur Deputy Commissioners issued land acquisition notices for road expansion, some people dug up vacant areas and paddy fields to obtain earth although these areas have been notified for acquisition.

According to a Revenue official, construction of houses and digging for obtaining earth after the land acquisition process has been initiated is not right.
A random survey conducted by The Sangai Express today found that some two/three spots were dug up for obtaining earth in Imphal West district and also at few places in Bishnupur district although these spots are within the notified area.
At some places, embankments made with earth dug up from areas which would be affected by the land acquisition process were seen.
Bishnupur district administration, on learning about it, have prohibited digging on notified areas through concerned SDOs and police, informed a source.
