One man electrocuted

Cutting down bamboo trees growing adjacent to a road has cost the life of a 48 year-old man at Yairipok Khoirom Mathak.
Toijam Basanta (48), s/o (L) Toijam I bohal of Yairipok Khoirom Mathak was electrocuted while chopping down two bamboos at his front yard yesterday at around 2.10 pm.
The bamboo tree reportedly fell on the High Tension Electric Line that passed over the locality which resulted in the electrocution of Basanta.
Mention may be made that the residents of Yairipok Khoirom Mathak had repeatedly appealed to the department concerned to repair the; power line strung along the locality.
The loosened power line transmitting over 132 KV electricity posed a threat to the people.
A JAC constituted against the death of Basanta has blamed the Power Department for the misfortune.
JAC convenor Toijam Mohendro said the JAC along with the residents of the locality will launch intense forms of agitation against the department in case it fails to repair the power line at the earliest.
