Imphal, December 30 2015 :
Government' s apathy is clearly evident in Imphal West district's Phayeng area, which is located along Imphal-Kangchup road, as it has no provision for drinking water, proper roads and other basic amenities etc.
Speaking to this reporter, the president of Phayeng Apunba Nupi Lup, Angom Tomalei Devi expressed that though the area is located near Kangchup water supply plant which supplies drinking water to different areas of Imphal West district, the area is devoid of drinking water supply till date and the villagers have to rely on ponds and river water for drinking.
She said that even after repeated reminders to PHED for supply of drinking water, the department has turned a deaf ear to their pleas.
On the other hand, the pradhan of Phayeng GP Angom Gojendro expressed that the tender process for road construction under PMGSY has been completed, but there is no sign of any road construction in Phayeng arzeas till date and people have to bear the dusty roads for years.
He also said that the farmers of Phayeng are suffering due to the malfunctioning dam after it collapsed years ago and Minor Irrigation Department has not repaired it till date and added that abolishing Minor Irrigation Department would be much better as the department is as good as dead.
Advisor of United Cultural Club, Phayeng, Angom Jiten stressed that the people of Phayeng have been protecting and conserving forest for years, but the Forest Department has not recognised the efforts of the villagers till date and urged the Tourism Department to develop the area as a popular tourist destination for it offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding areas.
