Wishes, prayers pour in for five Olympians

Manipur Olympic Association has announced cash award of Rs lakh each to Manipuri athlete who wins medal in the London Olympic Games while Manipur People's Party organised an all-religion prayer session for Olympians from Manipur State at the London Games and Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) Maj Gen UK Gurung conveyed best wishes to the five participants from the State.
According to an MOA statement issued today by its president Bijoy Koijam, Rs 1 lakh each would be awarded to individual players or team members who win medal in the ensuing Games.
MOA also conveyed to its members and Sports Department officials/ personnel to attend a mass prayer to be held at the Manipur Olympic House at 8 am tomorrow, to seek blessing of the Almighty for the sportspersons.
Meanwhile, in a message to the State Olympians, Maj Gen UK Gurung has conveyed them best wishes to all the five participants from Manipur in the Indian Contingent who have made it to London Olympics.
Assam Rifles recognizing the potential of the youth of Manipur is promoting sports in the State by organising various football, volleyball tournaments etc in different part of State regularly, highlighted a PRO IGAR (S) release adding that Assam Rifles also has an Archery node at Keithelmanbi where the talent in this field are nurtured.
IGAR (S) has planed to organize a State Level Maj Bob Khathing Memorial Football Tournament from March 2013 which will be a yearly affair thereafter.
Assam Rifles promises that it will synergise the talent of youth in promoting the sports in Manipur, it added.
On the otherhand, Manipur People's Party organised an all-religion prayer session today to seek blessing of the almighty for the five Olympians from Manipur who are competing in different events at the London Olympic Games.
The prayer session was conducted by Th Radhamohan.

The five Olympians from Manipur are boxers MC Mary Kom and Laishram Devendro, archer Laishram Bombayla Devi, weightlifter Ng Soniya Chariu and hockey player Khadangbam Kothajit Singh.
