National Voters' Day observed at districts

Ukhrul, January 25 2020: The 10th National Voters' Day was celebrated today at Ukhrul under the theme " Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy" at DRDA Conference Hall, at Hamleikhong, Ukhrul.

Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul Jospeh Pauline Kamson, who attended as the chief guest, expressed that the voter day is being observed to encourage the youth to participate in the electoral process.

Saying that a government is chosen by voting in a democratic country, the DC asserted that every youth above the age of 18 years should enrol in the National voter lists EPIC/Voter card issued by Election Commission of India empower every citizen to exercise their rights stated the DC.

Later, Joseph Pauline Kamson administered the National Voters Day pledge.

During the celebration, the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul distributed certificates to four best BLOs and eight volunteers who have done exemplary and commendable works during the electors' verification programme, while the ADC, Ukhrul, D Gangmei distributed voter card /EPIC card to the newly enrolled youth.

According to the reports from election office of Ukhrul district, more than 2500 new voters were enrolled this year.

As part of the celebration programme, a quiz competition was also conducted to increase awareness on the importance of enrolling in the National voter's list.

The programme was organised by the District Election Office and Deputy Commissioner Office, Ukhrul.

Kangpokpi: Kangpokpi too celebrated the 10th National Voters Day with 297 first time voters in the district at M Thomas Ground, today.

The celebration was organized by District Administration, Kangpokpi under the leadership of Lalithambigai Kalidas, District Election Officer, who is also the Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi.

Painting and quiz competitions were also conducted as part of the observance.

Lalithambigai Kalidas, District Election Officer/DC Kangpokpi graced the celebration as chief guest while Lalramsang Infimate, Addl DEO/Addl DC Chungsat Khongsai, Election Officer and SDO Kangpokpi, Imosana, took part in the event among others.

In the painting competition, Hoilenchong Chongloi of PMA Kangpokpi, Seitinmang Haokip of JNV Kangpokpi and Chingboi Kipgen of Elite Hr Sec School secured the first, second third positions respectively while Thangminchon Lhouvum and M Malsawm Singh, representing KT Hr Sec School secured the first position in the quiz competition, followed by Lamneichong Singsit and Paominlen Sitlhou, representing Diamond Eng High School and Maxio Kajam and Nengneiting Doungel of JNV Kangpokpi bagged the second and third places respectively.

Janglet Dimngel, Hemkhosei Khongsai, Sehsei Tuboi, Paochungnung Kipgen, Ramnath Siwakoti and Seipu Lhouvum were awarded Best BLOs while A Chingthangkhomba, Thangjamang Chongloi and Jangminthang Haokip were awarded best BLOs Supervisor and Thangmonlal Hangshing of Wakotphai, Thonggoulen Doungel and Hoithem Haolai were awarded best Person With Disabilities (PWDs) .

Winners of the competitions, best BLOs, best BLOs Supervisors and best PWDs were awarded citation, cash prize, National Voters Day T-shirt and other items by the dignitaries while Lalramsang Infimate distributed the EPIC voter card to the fresh voters.

According to the DEO/DC Kangpokpi, 297 first time voters were issued EPICs.

Senapati: The 10th National Voter's Day was observed today at DC Conference Hall, Senapati District under the theme "Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy".

The programme was organised by the office of the District Election Officer, Senapati.

At the observance, Senapati Deputy Commissioner, Somorjit Salam stated that democracy is undoubtedly the best form of government.

Saying that 65% of the population in the country are the youths, the DC appealed the young people to uphold the ideal of democracy.

Democracy is the voice of the people because citizens exercise their power by voting, he said and appealed the people to uphold the tradition of democracy by voting without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement.

The DC also led the National Voter's Day pledge.

RK Dayananda, ADM/ ERO 47- Karong (ST) & 48- Mao (ST) AC's, while addressing his speech, stated that the National Voter's Day has been commemorated on this day since 2011 to increase electoral enrolment and create awareness to the younger voter to participate and uphold the democratic values.

A speech competition was also organised as part of the event, apart from distributing EPIC Cards to a few fresh voters.

PR Lani, 47/17 Phaibung Khullen(B) of Karong (ST) AC; D Eshow, 48/30 Makhel(A) of Mao(ST) AC and L Caleb, 49/58 Taphou Naga of Tadubi(ST) AC were awarded the best BLOs of the district.

The programme was also attended by DLOs, CSO's members, youth volunteers, students etc.

Bishnupur: Humanism Foundation in association with Kangvai Battalion and NSS, Kumbi College also organised National Voters' Day at the auditorium of Kumbi College, here, today.

As part of the observation, trainees of Humanim Foundation; students of Kumbi College and local leaders took a pledge to "uphold the democratic traditions of India and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections and to vote in every election without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement.

Principal of Kumbi College, K Jugeshwor Singh; Chairman of Humanism Foundation, W Shanti Devi; Chancellor of Manipur International University, Dr Harikumar and Vice-Chairperson of Kumbi Municipal Council, Loitongbam (o) Babita Devi attended the observance as presidium members.

Addressing the gathering, L Gopal Singh, HOD of Political Science Department, Kumbi College, who attended at the observance as resource person highlighted the roles and duties of every citizen of India and the importance of voting in elections.

It may be mentioned here that the Nation Voters' Day is celebrated across the country on every year on January 25 to mark the foundation day of Election Commission of India.

The theme of this year's Nation Voters' Day is 'Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy'.

Imphal: District Election Officer Imphal West also observed the dat at Lamphelpat DC Office complex.
