Imphal, August 18 2017:
Pressing the demand for enactment of an effective law to monitor the rampant influx of migrants into the State and barring non-locals from contesting in elections in all the Assembly Constituencies, a large number of students of CT Higher Secondary School and Nilamani English School, Mayang Imphal staged a sit-in-protest today.
The students who protested under the aegis of Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) Mayai Lambi District Council also formed a human chain and shouted slogans "Make all the Assembly Constituencies as reserved seats for indigenous people", "Remove the names of non-locals from the electoral roll", "Translate the assurance gave by the Chief Minister in the Assembly on July 31 last into action" etc.
The enraged students also burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister.
They pledged to launch different modes of agitation if the assurance is not translated into action at the earliest.
