Imphal, October 12, 2013:
The 39th annual general body meeting of All Manipur Government Drivers and Technicians' Association convened today has, among others, resolved to exert pressure upon the Government for job regularisation of drivers currently engaged in various departments as work-charged and muster-roll employees.
The annual congregation of drivers and technicians at the Sanjenthong conference hall of Agriculture Department also resolved to demand drivers' livery, promotion of handymen/assistant drivers and cleaner employees to the rank of driver, implementation of Central pay norms to the State Govt drivers, appointment of drivers' supervisor in the State departments from amongst the senior and most eligible drivers and provide office room for drivers at a suitable location within the limits of the State capital.
Attending the meeting as the chief guest, CADA Additional chief Engineer K Manoranjan called upon both the drivers and department officials for promoting cordial relationships as both are essential components for a department to function efficiently.
Stating that respect for one another is the surest way for a healthy work environment, Manoranjan also stressed on increasing drivers' membership and working in unison.
Electricity Department Superintending Engineer M Jadumani gracing the meeting as the guest of honour urged the drivers to work with dedication and responsibly rather than living under the impression that their job is centred on monthly entitlement.
Association president Dr O Nobo presided over the meeting.
